Gianni Moscon Kicked Out Again: What Happened at the Vuelta a Burgos?
Gianni Moscon disqualified from the Vuelta a Burgos for 'improper conduct,' with another rider also sanctioned as questions remain over the incident.

Gianni Moscon was thrown out of the Vuelta a Burgos on Thursday in the latest flashpoint of his career, though few details have emerged about the incident that triggered his expulsion.
The UCI race jury cited the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider for “improper conduct and behavior that is indecent and that endangers others.”
The Italian was slapped with a 1,000 Swiss franc fine, docked 50 UCI ranking points, shown a yellow card and kicked out of the race under article 2.12.007.8.2.1 of the UCI regulations.
Bahrain Victorious rider Mathijs Paasschens was also cited under the same rule. The Dutchman received a 500 Swiss franc fine, a 25-point deduction and a yellow card, but remained in the race.
The jury report did not clarify if the two sanctions stemmed from the same incident during stage 3, won by Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM).
Contacted by Velo, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe officials said “we respect the jury’s decision and will not comment any further. Our focus remains on the final stages of the race.”
Velo also reached out to Bahrain Victorious officials for comment.

Previous controversies and sanctions
Moscon, 32, has weathered a series of high-profile controversies during his career, though he’s stayed out of the headlines the past few seasons.
In 2017, Team Sky suspended him for six weeks after he used racially abusive language toward Kévin Reza at the Tour de Romandie and required him to complete diversity awareness courses.
In 2018, Moscon was kicked out of the Tour de France and later banned five weeks after punching Élie Gesbert in stage 15. And in 2020, he was booted from Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne for aggressive conduct after throwing a bicycle at Jens Debusschere after a crash.
Moscon joined Red Bull in 2025 and raced the Giro d’Italia this season.
So far, there’s been no public comment from either team or rider.
