Paul Seixas casually dropped a bombshell Sunday that could finally put an end to cycling’s biggest transfer rumor — he confirmed he will race with Decathlon CMA CGM in 2027.
The 19-year-old French phenom has been at the center of transfer intrigue for months, with cycling’s richest superteams angling for his signature and rumors flying about whether he could leave Decathlon before his contract expires.
Seixas refused to comment on the speculation during the Tour de France, but answered emphatically Sunday at a post-Tour criterium when asked about his future.
“Next year I will ‘just’ drive for Decathlon CMA CGM”, he told WielerFlits. “For me that is a certainty, because I still have a contract until the end of 2027.”
Seixas said the same thing in a separate interview with Dutch journalist Thijs Zonneveld on In De Waaier during the Profwielerronde of Etten-Leur, one of cycling’s largest post-Tour criteriums.
“For Decathlon next year, I signed until 2027,” Seixas said. “For me, next year, it’s a certainty.”
The comments are significant because they mark Seixas’ first definitive statement about his future after months of speculation over whether he might break his existing contract and leave the French WorldTour team at the end of 2026.
Sources told Velo that Seixas did not want to discuss his future until after the 2026 Tour, so Sunday’s comments seem to indicate that a firm decision has been taken, at least about his plans for next season.
Officials from Decathlon CMA CGM told journalists during the Tour they were working hard to find the resources to keep France’s best Tour de France hope in a generation on the French-backed team.
The 19-year-old’s future is the biggest narrative of the 2026-27 transfer season.
Another source told Velo after the Tour that uncertainty surrounding Seixas had effectively blocked the top end of the transfer market. Major teams were reluctant to spend big bucks until they knew what cycling’s hottest young prospect was going to do.
In June, super agent Alex Carera told Velo a reported offer from Q36.5 for Seixas for $13 million per season was way off the mark.
Seixas’ brief comments now appear to shut the door on a move for 2027.
What happens beyond 2027 remains unclear, including whether Seixas’ next move is already taking shape behind the scenes.
Velo reached out to Decathlon CMA CGM for additional comment.
