It’s the off season, a time to recharge, but that hasn’t stopped Olympic and world TT champion Remco Evenepoel from logging more training kilometers and scoping out the route of a major objective.
The Belgian is currently in California visiting the headquarters of bike sponsor Specialized and has used that time to build relationships and to work on some things which could pay off well in 2027 and beyond.
On Sunday he put in a 65.34km ride, starting near Griffith Park and the LA Zoo, and taking in parts of the TT course for the 2028 LA Olympic Games.
The full route has not yet been released but he still used the time to familiarize himself with the area and with whatever course details he has been able to ascertain.
The ride then concluded close to the beach at Santa Monica.
Evenepoel has been busy since arriving in LA, doing what he described as a LA Jetlag and Sunrise Run on Saturday and then taking in a 48.08km social ride with Specialized.
Photos from the latter were posted by @Shreddypendergrass, and showed Evenepoel doing a group ride in his European road champion’s jersey.
Also present were FDJ Suez riders Demi Vollering and Kate Courtney. The world champ and US national champion are also Specialized-sponsored athletes.
According to Sporza, the trip will see Evenepoel—and presumably the other pros—do additional wind tunnel testing at the Specialized HQ in Morgan Hill.
The Belgian recently spent some days at a Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe training camp, working on plans for next season.
He had his best season to date in 2026, notching up 15 victories including the worlds TT and European championships road race, and taking the runner-up slot in the Tour de France.
Vollering had an even more impressive year, taking 16 wins in 33 days of competition. Her triumphs included the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the Giro d’Italia Women, the world road championships, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour of Flanders and more.
Both are highly ambitious and, like Courtney, are using this time to work towards even bigger results next year.
