One Zwift user got more than they were bargaining for when they took the platform’s new “real life” video format for a spin.
Sam Sky was virtually grinding along the Colorado River Sunrise highway on his indoor trainer when he spotted someone in the corner of his screen, crouched in bushes in the lay-by.
There was only one thing they could reasonably be doing: “Taking a dump.”
Sky grabbed a screencap of this surprise addition to Zwift’s new “Plus” package and shared it to the Zwift Ride Owners Group on Facebook.
“Zoom in on the green circle. I saw a guy taking a dump by the side of the road during my session this morning on the new videos,” Sky wrote Monday in the text accompanying his post.
And indeed, if you zoom in close enough, Sky doesn’t seem to be mistaken.
A figure with a white top can be seen hunched over, seemingly pushing their own take of Zone 2 into some scrubby foliage.
The post’s comments section inevitably lit up. Bad jokes about Tom Dumoulin mingled with snarky comments that Sky wasn’t training hard enough.
Zwift rolled out its “Plus” premium tier last week to a wave of hype.
The online training and racing giant added real-world video routes and adaptive coaching to a costly subscription model it considered a milestone.
For the first time, Zwifters could ascend iconic real-world climbs and zoom along touristic coastal roads rather than take on another rep of Watopia’s “Epic KoM.”
Excited early adopters like Sky likely didn’t expect Zwift’s expansion into the real world to be quite this realistic, however.
But fear not, Zwift is clearing up the mess.
A spokesperson told Road.CC on Tuesday that they’re working to scrub this unfortunate addition from its new premium package.
“We’re aware that the screenshot has been shared,” Zwift told Road.CC. “This is being addressed today. I’m sure that some readers may be slightly disappointed.”
