US Boxing Star Hannah Rapp Struck and Killed by Driver While Cycling in Texas

U.S. boxing star Hannah Rapp was killed while cycling in Texas on Saturday after a driver hit her with his car.

Brazos County sheriff’s office alleged that the 26-year-old was struck after a driver passed her, came to an abrupt halt, and then reversed into her. Rapp was pronounced dead after emergency responders rushed her to the local hospital.

Charles Medina has been arrested in connection with Rapp’s death and charged with manslaughter. The 31-year-old could face up to 20 years in prison under Texas law if convicted.

Rapp was a leading featherweight athlete. She claimed eight victories in her first nine pro bouts and challenged for the World Boxing Council (WBC) women’s featherweight championship in June. Rapp lost to Tiara Brown in the fight for the world title belt. The Indiana native turned pro in 2024 while holding down a full-time job as a fire and life safety inspector.

Tributes to Rapp flooded in from across the pro boxing community this weekend.

“The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken,” said WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán said in an official statement. “She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family.

“We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career.”

The Guardian reported Sunday that Medina’s bond amount has not yet been set. He remains in custody.
