Ezra Caudell has left the hospital and is transferring into intensive rehabilitation some 31 days after his traumatic crash at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic.
The Modern Adventure Pro Cycling rider was discharged late last week and will continue his recovery at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, officials confirmed.
Caudell, 20, was already walking the hospital halls before his discharge, according to the recovery update shared by his family and team.
“Just as encouraging has been his neurologic recovery. Ezra continues to show significant improvement from the injury to his brain, with progress in his strength, cognition, communication, and independence each day,” an update read.
“His recovery will take time, but his progress over the past month has been remarkable, and to see him now walking, interacting with those around him, and moving on to rehabilitation represents an enormous milestone.”
Caudell crashed on August 30 while racing the Philadelphia Cycling Classic.
The move into rehabilitation marks a major step for Caudell, though the team update on Tuesday emphasized that a long recovery still lies ahead.
The medical team expects his lung contusions and his fractures to continue healing without the need for further intervention, officials said.
His family and Modern Adventure Pro Cycling thanked supporters for their continued support as the popular rider begins the next phase of recovery.
“Ezra’s family and the Modern Adventure Pro Cycling team have every confidence in him and remain deeply grateful for the continued support he has received,” a note read.
