Dylan van Baarle suffered a scare just weeks ahead of his wedding to Pauline Ferrand-Prévot in an incident involving a car during a training ride Wednesday.
The Dutchman was taken to hospital after the collision in Tiel, Netherlands, according to Het Laatste Nieuws, and diagnosed with a fractured wrist.
Further details of what’s being described as a “road traffic accident involving a car” are not immediately available.
His fiancée said his helmet saved his life after a heavy impact to his head.
“He got a big impact on his head, the helmet definitely save his life,” Ferrand-Prévot wrote on Instagram. “I’m really really grateful that things turned out pretty well.”
Soudal Quick-Step confirmed that a CT scan revealed no damage to his skull or spine.
Van Baarle faces surgery Thursday and will miss Paris-Tours, ending his first season with the Belgian squad, officials confirmed.

The accident comes as one of cycling’s super couples prepares to marry later this month.
They are the only couple to have both won Paris-Roubaix: Van Baarle took his cobblestone home in 2022, and Ferrand-Prévot added hers in 2025.
Ferrand-Prévot thanked Soudal Quick-Step for arranging prompt care and friends for helping them through what she called a “really horrible, long and stressful day”.
Ferrand-Prévot — winner of the 2025 Tour de France Femmes — pulled out early in the 2026 edition and ended her season early, citing fatigue and recovery.
“I’m going to sleep alone for few nights, but that’s the tradition before the big wedding day I guess,” she wrote.
